Lazio seems to quit permanently in the title fight with Juventus. The Roman club surprisingly lost 2-1 on Tuesday at low-flyer Lecce.

Lazio is therefore stuck at 68 points after 31 of the 38 rounds. Leader Juventus can already make a gap of ten points if he wins against AC Milan later in the day.

For Lazio, it is the third loss in the last five games. Besides Lecce, Atalanta Bergamo (3-2) and AC Milan (0-3) were also too strong for the team of Simone Inzaghi.

Visiting Lecce, who was fighting relegation, Lazio seemed to fall behind after just three minutes. Marco Mancosu turned out to have made hands in the run-up to his beautiful goal.

Shortly thereafter, Lazio struck when Felipe Caicedo took advantage of a gun in the defense of Lecce, but the home team then focused strongly. Khouma Babacar equalized after an hour of play and after Mancosu missed a penalty, Fabio Lucioni scored 2-1 in the 47th minute.

Lazio was still close to the equalizer in the final phase via Bobby Adekanye, who came in five minutes before time. The Dutchman saw his teammate Patric being sent away in injury time because of the suspected biting of an opponent.

Valencia wins, Cillessen on the bench

In Spain, Valencia booked a home victory at the last minute on Real Valladolid. By a goal in the penultimate minute of South Korean Lee Kang-In, the game ended in an empty Mestalla in 2-1.

Jasper Cillessen stayed on the bench at Valencia. Trainer Voro preferred Spanish goalkeeper Jaume Domenech, who was only beaten by Victor García. On behalf of Valencia, Maximiliano Gómez had previously scored 1-0.

It is only the second victory for Valencia since the resumption of La Liga. The team is disappointingly eighth.
