Valtteri Bottas took care of pole position after the qualification yesterday and could easily keep away and win the F1 premiere in Austria.

Mercedes dominated last season and it looked like a double in today's race. Alex Albon chased Lewis Hamilton in the battle for second place and when the Red Bull driver rounded out the reigning world champion it became contact and Hamilton was given a five second time penalty after squeezing Albon into the gravel.

Hamilton's time penalty gave Lando Norris, who was four on the track, a way to get up on the podium. He needed to get out of Hamilton within five seconds and with the final lap of the race, the McLaren driver managed to do so and also set the race's fastest lap time.

Technical problems for many cars

Max Verstappen, who was the big challenger to Mercedes, broke the race already after eleven laps and then broke car after car with technical problems. A total of nine cars had to throw in the towel, including both the Red Bull cars and both Haas cars, and the safety car rolled out three times.

A position that Charles Leclerc took best advantage of. After a qualifier where Ferrari looked pale, he made his way all the way to second place from his seventh start.
