The Red Bull team has presented this Friday, within the framework of the Austrian Grand Prix , a formal protest against Mercedes for the alleged illegality of DAS, the dual-axis steering system, as confirmed by Formula 1.

"Red Bull has presented a formal protest on the legality of Mercedes' dual-axis steering system 'DAS' ," the 'Great Circus' organization confirmed on Twitter.

Previously, Red Bull director Christian Horner had ensured that the team intended to seek clarification from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) regarding the legality of the system that Mercedes first used in pre-season testing. in February, and it will be banned from 2021.

After the two free practice sessions on Friday, dominated by Mercedes , the presentation of the protest was confirmed; Red Bull alleges that the system violates the technical regulation, specifically article 3.8, which refers to aerodynamic influence, and article 10.2.3, which states that "no adjustment can be made to any suspension system while the car is moving" .

Now, it should be the commissioners who decide if the system is legal; If they consider that it is not, the team must make the necessary changes and eliminate it, and if they determine that it is legal, Mercedes may continue to use it.

The decision will be made before 3:00 pm this Saturday, when the qualifying session will begin. If it's legal, other teams may choose to add their own version of the system to the car, something Horner hinted that Red Bull could do.
