Fans of Bayer Leverkusen football team gathered at their team's stadium on Friday to give the players a moral boost and a special motivation when the team left for Berlin in preparation for the German Cup final tomorrow Saturday against the Bayern Munich Bayern team.
The team's bus drove to the airport amid loud chants, songs and some fireworks, which impressed Rudi Fowler, sports director of Leverkusen.
"This was an unusual situation," said captain Lars Binder. "The fans wanted to say goodbye to us for sure supporting them ... There were several hundred or a thousand fans in the stadium ... It was a wonderful moment for us."
Leverkusen are in the cup final for the first time in 11 years, and the team is looking forward to winning the championship tomorrow, to be its first in various championships since winning the same title in 1993.
The team finished this season in fifth place in the Bundesliga, while Bayern is looking to add the Cup title to the Bundesliga title it won last June.
The club called on its fans to support the players and the team by wearing the team's shirts today, whether they are at work, during sports, or even while they are at home.
