RB Leipzig received the approval of the local German health authorities on Thursday for a partial return of the public to its stadium when the championship resumed in September but with a strict health protocol. The first Bundesliga club to get the green light, it plans to fill its enclosure to half its capacity, or 20,000 seats, the city told German agency SID.

“The RB Leipzig presented a hygiene concept which is solid and appropriate in the opinion of the (local) Ministry of Health to significantly reduce the risk of infections (…) For this reason, the public health service has confirmed the hygiene concept of RB Leipzig ”, explained the city.

No sale of food

In addition to a maximum gauge of 50% of spectators, the latter, who will have a personalized ticket, must obligatorily wear a mask in the grandstand and the adjacent seats will be free, except for people from the same household. The sale of food will be banned, but not the sale of drinks, according to Bild . Ideally, the journey to the stadium should not be made by public transport. However, all of this will only be allowed if the coronavirus epidemic continues to decline.

According to Bild , Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and FC Cologne have also proposed projects in this direction to their respective local authorities, decision makers on health issues, federalism requires. Dortmund thus aims to reach a gauge of one third of its capacities, or all the same 28,000 spectators.

The League promises nothing

"If you dream of full stadiums, you can continue to dream a little more," said BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke on Tuesday, but was optimistic that "some" fans would return. It would primarily be holders of an annual card. The German Football League (DFL), which met on Thursday to discuss the subject, has so far refrained from giving its opinion.

The Bundesliga was in mid-May the first major European championship to restart its matches, all behind closed doors, after more than two months of interruption. It ended last weekend with the 8th consecutive coronation of Bayern.

Elsewhere in Europe, Denmark is one of the first championships to allow supporters to return: in Copenhagen, up to 10,500 can support their team at Parken, the country's largest stadium which can accommodate 38,000 spectators. But on Wednesday evening, the Cup final had to be interrupted for almost a quarter of an hour because of rebel supporters refusing to respect the rules of social distancing imposed inside the stadium.

In France, the government recently authorized from July 11 up to 5,000 spectators maximum to attend meetings. However, no official decision has yet been made on whether the public could attend the two National Cup finals scheduled for late July.
