Tomorrow will be the first big holiday departures and a new tool could well revolutionize picnics: a new generation of devices that keep ice for more than three weeks. For comparison, on current models, everything starts to melt after 3-4 days on average. Among the best, we manage to last a week, rarely more. While there, we reach almost a month, 27 days to be precise.

This goes even further since, for the first time, we can also keep frozen foods. The cooler manages to guarantee that the temperature will remain constantly below -10 ° for at least 5 days. So we can completely replace a freezer. We are talking about a totally passive cooler that we do not need to connect.

It is a technology that was previously used in the medical to store vaccines and blood bags. We simply adapted it to the general public. Instead of having foam insulators like on classic coolers, we rely on vacuum walls like in thermos. Which will give much better insulation.

And to regulate the temperature, we use cold accumulators in the form of plates, which we will place on the sides and above. It's the little secret, since they are designed in a special material. Depending on the model, it will absorb more or less heat and guarantee a temperature below 2 ° for meat. Below 8 ° for drinks. And even -20 ° for extreme freezing. Even if in this case, it will only last 3 days. Which is not bad.

As for the price, it is much more expensive than a classic cooler: from 300 to 800 € depending on the size. They are called vacuum-insulated coolers. The first models begin to be marketed by the German Qool and the American Yeti.
