Last year there was no Hallstat test for Frida Karlsson. But when she took on the challenge on Monday, 1800 meters straight up the Hallstabacken in Sollefteå, she did it in an impressive way.

The 20-year-old beat Ebba Andersson's previous record of 8.56 - but she did not want to reveal the new era.

"We can let them speculate freely," she said in a comment to SVT Sport.

But coach Per Nilsson, who acted as a timer during the race, now tells SVT Sport that Karlsson broke the record by a good margin.

"Thought Ebba's record was difficult to hit"

- She got into a cannon race. It was a good time, I was surprised. I thought Ebba's record was hard to beat. It wasn't for a second - it was a clear time, says Nilsson.

What time did she run?

- Many people ask. It comes sooner or later, when she releases it.

Nilsson believes that the record time is a nice acknowledgment that pre-season training has produced results.

- For a rider, it is a receipt that you are right and as a coach it is nice to see. She has been training well and then it will be a calm in the training as well.

That the corona eruption shortened the racing season and set up planned camps, believes Nilsson has benefited many riders - including Karlsson.

- Generally many are in good shape now, they have had a longer training period. The trend is that many have trained well, one is ahead of their summer form. It is important to be vigilant there, to balance training. It's no idea to be on top in September. It is important to sharpen the knife so that it is as sharp as possible when it is racing season.

Can compete in races

Therese Johaug has had great running success during the fall and spring. At a gala in Oslo in early June, she ran 10,000 meters at 31.40.69 - the new World Year's Best. TV2's length expert Petter Soleng Skinstad believes that Karlsson has been inspired by the Norwegian. And according to Per Nilsson, Karlsson can be some races for Karlsson as well.

- Yes, I think so. If it fits in, but there is nothing planned now.

- She is sure to drive later, maybe there will be some running test on flat ground or some terrain race. But at the same time you should take it a little piano and not compete too much, you should see it as training.
