The Black Lives Matter movement that followed George Floyd's death due to police violence has led many athletes to take a stand.

Some of these were the players in the NWSL game between North Carolina Courage and Portland Thorns who all chose to kneel before the match.

After discussions with players and clubs, within NWSL it has now been decided that you can do almost what you want during the national anthem.

- NWSL is behind every player and leader. Squat on the pitch, stand with your hand over the heart. Honor your feelings privately in the dressing room or on the middle floor. NWSL is a league based on diversity and courage and those principles for us going forward, says NWSL's Lisa Baird in a statement.

Right now the Challenge Cup is going on in the NWSL and it is played in front of empty stands in Utah.
