There were no incidents, despite some cracking of smoke bombs, but the message got out on the eve of the municipal elections. Between 2,000 and 2,500 supporters of the Girondins gathered without incident Saturday in front of the town hall of Bordeaux to "shout their anger" against the management and the shareholder of the Ligue 1 club, which they consider too mercantile and whose departure they demand.

How beautiful, how worthy, this big family.
She shares with us all the love of a club that has become legend, as well as the anger at seeing it endangered. #WeGirondins is not just a day. It is also a promise: our club will never be alone. https://t.co/WRwK6fvIas

Two hours of songs and slogans

For almost two hours, these supporters dressed in navy and white sang their stadium songs, chanted slogans hostile to the management team and listened to the speeches of their leaders, interspersed with messages of support recorded by old club glories like Christophe Dugarry and Alain Giresse.

“There is a huge irremediable break with (president Frédéric) Longuépée and the management. They have a vision of football totally opposite to ours, a club is not a business! We want them to take the train back to Paris, ”explains Florian Brunet, responsible for the Ultramarines. The group of supporters who launched the mobilization ten days ago under the hashtag #NouslesGirondins. In the crowd, Thomas, a 26-year-old computer engineer, scarf around his neck in spite of the heat, resents the shareholder, the American investment fund King Street: "We don't know who it is and why they bought it the club. We want them to resell it to someone who really knows what this club represents. ”

Politicians join the movement

Several former Bordeaux players have joined the movement, such as Philippe Fargeon, champion and winner of the Coupe de France in 1987. "I want people to come back to the stadium, to take back this club, to be proud of it. "Said the former international attacker. "When we see this base (of supporters), we tell ourselves that there is still a potential".

In the middle of the electoral period, politicians did not fail to interfere in the debate. Two municipal candidates in Bordeaux, Philippe Poutou (NPA) and the ecologist Pierre Hurmic, made a discreet appearance, without speaking because of the electoral reserve period. The outgoing mayor, Nicolas Florian (LR), concerned about the crisis affecting the club, had meanwhile stepped up to the plate recently asking to meet King Street. The candidates “talked a lot about the Girondins during the campaign but now we have to act. They have a duty to preserve the heritage of the city, "concluded Florian Brunet, who wishes to be received at the town hall next week.
