The first ice ceremony of the Oscars - ISU Skating Awards, organized by renowned agent Ari Zakaryan, will be held on July 11. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event will be held in an online format. On the eve of the shortlist of nominees was published, which in various categories were Eteri Tutberidze, Alyona Kostornaya, Anna Scherbakova, Alexander Trusov and Evgeny Medvedev. And a few days before it became known that Alina Zagitova, who claimed the title of “Most Valuable Skater”, “Best Costume” and “Best Entertainment Program”, dropped out of the fight in all categories.
First, the fans made this conclusion on the basis of a new promotional video of the award, in which the Olympic champion Pyeongchang was absent, and then Zakaryan indirectly confirmed their speculation. The fact is that voting is carried out in three stages and figure skating enthusiasts, journalists and representatives of the Speed Skating Federation (ISU) take part in it.
In this regard, the fans accused the organizers of a biased attitude towards Zagitova, suggesting that their votes were not taken into account at all. They created the hashtags #WeVotedForAlinaZagitova (#We VotedZaAlinaZagitova) and #BoycottAwardCorruptISU (# BoycottRewards of the SalesISU) and angrily messed up the organization’s social network accounts.
However, the failure at the ISU Skating Awards could well be compensated for by Zagitova getting into the prestigious Forbes list. There she took 31st place among the most successful Russian stars of show business and sports under the age of 40 years. When compiling the rating, which was headed by UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, a number of indicators were taken into account, including earnings and popularity. Compared to last year, the student Tutberidze rose to two lines.
Being shortlisted by the ISU Skating Awards can be considered a good gift for Trusova, who celebrated her 16th anniversary on June 23. She had to celebrate the holiday at the training camp in Kislovodsk together with her young colleagues in the group, Evgeni Plushenko, but this clearly did not spoil the joyful experience.
