Ajax does not necessarily plan to get a successor to Hakim Ziyech for the coming season. Player affairs director Marc Overmars thinks that the current selection can accommodate the departure of the midfielder to Chelsea.

"We don't necessarily have to get a replacement for Hakim. We can solve that internally or play differently and someone like Antony is also near Ziyech," Overmars said in conversation with Ajax TV on Monday .

This summer, Antony will transfer for almost 16 million euros from São Paulo from his homeland Brazil. The twenty-year-old talent can handle all positions in the attack and can also be used as an attacking midfielder.

"Left leg, with a good pass. He is our first major purchase of the season, even before the corona situation. It is a bit similar to David Neres, he will have to get used to the Netherlands," said Overmars.

"Don't rule out Onana staying another year"

Besides Ziyech, Ajax may lose a number of strongmen. For example, André Onana and Nicolas Tagliafico have already expressed their hope for a transfer and Donny van de Beek and Sergiño Dest are not unwilling about a transition.

"André actually meets our standards. He has won awards, has gotten better and is ready for the next step. But I really can't rule out that he will stay another year", said Overmars, who also discussed the situation of Tagliafico .

"Nico is of course at an age that I understand that you would like to take another step. If that is the case, then you should not take that away if the conditions are good for all parties."
