The Adria Summer Tour consisted of a number of demonstration matches on gravel in Serbia and Croatia. Croatian Borna Coric and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov met on Saturday, and have both tested positive for covid-19 after that.

This has led to harsh criticism from some quarters. On Monday, for example, the outspoken Nicolas Kyrgios, ranked 40th in the world, went out and condemned the tournament.

“Stupid to move on with the tournament. This is what happens when you disregard all protocols. This is not a joke, "the Australian wrote on Twitter.

"Strict Calls"

But despite the events, the ATP tour continues to aim for a restart on August 14.

In a statement, quoted by the AP News Agency, that the tour "continues to plan and adjust" their precautionary measures on the basis of the corona pandemic, with a view to launching on August 14.

They further say that they "continue with stringent demands to maintain responsible social distance and to follow the health and safety incentives that exist to stop the spread of viruses".
