Spanish club Real Betis decided on Sunday to dismiss coach Francesc Ferrer "Ruby", the team's coach, after a 1-0 defeat by Athletic Bilbao on Saturday in the Spanish League for the game.

The club also decided to appoint Alexis Trujillo, the club's sports affairs coordinator, as coach of the team.

The club confirmed in a statement today, quoted by the news agency "Europe Press": "The Real Betis club board decided that Alexis will take charge of the club's first football team. Alexis will hold this position until the end of the current season."

Alexis, 54, has played for Betis seven seasons, during which he played 264 official matches.

Alexis also coached the team in the last two games of the league 2016/17 season after sacking coach Victor Sanchez del Amo.

Ruby took over the team's training in the summer of 2019, but the team received two defeats and drew it in one match during the three matches that he played after the competition resumed recently after the interruption period due to the crisis of the outbreak of the newly infected Corona virus.

During his coaching career, Robbie led Real Betis to victory in just eight games for ten draws and 12 defeats.

In his statement, the club explained: "Real Betis would like to thank Juan Francisco (Ruby) and his entire training staff for the services they provided to the team that confirm their professionalism and loyalty. The club wishes them the best in their next sporting career."
