American golfer Nick Watney was ejected from the RBC Heritage tournament before the start of his second round on Friday after testing positive for a coronavirus test, the American PGA circuit reported.

Watney, 39, "is the first member of the PGA circuit to test positive for coronavirus," the organization said in a statement.

"On Friday, before arriving at the tournament, he indicated that he had symptoms consistent with the disease and after consulting a doctor, he was administered a test and it was positive," he explained.

Watney, 39, went into self-isolation and the circuit began to implement his response plan in case there was any contagion in the tournament, which this Friday began its second round at the Harbor Town Golf Links course (HiltonHead Island , South Carolina).

PGA said Watney traveled privately to the event, which is being held without an audience, and failed a test that was performed on arrival.

Before the start of the tournament, which ends on Sunday, 369 tests were carried out on players, caddies and staff, and all were negative. There were also no infections last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge, a tournament in which PGA resumed activity after a three-month suspension due to the coronavirus.

At RBC Heritage, the English Ian Poulter and the American Mark Hubbard shared the head on Thursday at the end of the first round, with the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz placed in the third position group, and much further away the first two of the world ranking, Northern Ireland Rory McIlroy and Spanish Jon Rahm .
