Uefa's executive committee held a press conference on international football today. It was confirmed that the twelve host cities in the European Championships, which would have taken place in the summer of 2020, are stuck until the playoffs in 2021.

- Obviously it is an advantage for everyone involved. These host cities have been working for many years to prepare. For the participating teams, it is a security to know that you can complete. It makes it easier for everyone involved, ”says Karl-Erik Nilsson, chairman of the Swedish Football Association, to SVT Sport.

The European Championships will take place between June 11 and July 11.

Extra matches in October and November

Uefa also announced that the National League group play will take place this fall.

- It follows the plan that already lies ahead. That is, two matches in September and the other matches in October and November respectively. The new thing is that it is a third match scheduled in October and November, and it is the playoff matches that would have been launched in March. It's about the playoff for the European Championships next year. There are four teams left, including our neighbors Norway and Iceland, says Karl-Erik Nilsson.

- This means that Sweden, which is already ready for the European Championships, has the opportunity to play two training matches - one in October and one in November. So there will be three matches for the national team in both October and November. Those collections will be slightly longer than they usually are. The playoff matches will be the first matchday in October and November.

How does it affect all Swedes?

- All this is done with close cooperation with clubs and leagues. It is not that someone has run over someone else, it is common compromises they have made. On the national team side, we have moved an entire European championship to start league games.
