The new model of the Spanish Super Cup sponsored by Luis Rubiales will end up in court. The Valencia yesterday presented a claim for damages which generated uneven economic distribution designed by the Spanish Federation for this competition. Five months after the dispute in Arabia, he has only collected 800,000 euros from the 2.5 million that the Federation itself stipulated for the Celades team.

The conflict started with the change of the competition system. Valencia, defended even before proclaiming itself Cup champion and winning the right to dispute this trophy, that the rules could not be changed midway through the championship. However, the club's stance hardened when the economic amount with which the Federation was going to reward each of the participants was announced. All started from 800,000 euros for sports participation, to which amounts were added depending on their results in the competition and, above all, on the historical classification. This caused the Cup champion to be the team that started with the least guaranteed income: 2.5 million compared to the 6.5 that Barça received, also being eliminated in the semifinals. Not even raising the title in Jeddah would have reached Valencia that amount. TheReal Madrid , one of the beneficiaries of the new design of the competition to which he attended as a guest, pocketed 12 million as champion.

But it is also that Valencia has not even collected those 2.5 million. His stance of rejecting the proposed distribution led him to be the last to sign the participation contract required by the Federation, which even offered the possibility of submitting to arbitration to agree on an agreement. Finally, President Anil Murthy initialed the contract adding a caveat in which he showed his disagreement with the economic formula and adding that he reserved the appropriate legal actions.

It is this exception that the Federation accepts to understand that the contract signed by Valencia has no legal validity and therefore does not pay the 1.7 million euros for commercial compensation that were established in the document.

Valencia has taken five months to file this lawsuit, waiting first for the payment of the Federation and then for the reopening of the judicial activity, suspended during the first period of the state of alarm. The retention of this amount occurs at a delicate moment for the accounts of Valencia, with a significant drop in income due to the suspension of the competition, which despite its objections to the distribution, did actively participate in everything that the Federation needed to comply with. with the commitments signed with the Saudi government that brought him 40 million euros, 120 in the total of the three years of the agreement.
