Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera suffered a double tibia-fibula fracture on Sunday during his team's first game in the league which resumed this weekend. Muslera, 33, "suffered an injury that caused fractures of the tibia and fibula bones" in the game lost by his team (0-2) to Rizespor, Galatasaray announced in a statement released the night of Sunday to Monday.

The Uruguayan international must undergo additional examinations on Monday and will have to be operated afterwards, added the Istanbul giant, without specifying the duration of his unavailability. The Turkish media reports of six to eight months of arrest. Muslera, captain of Galatasaray where he has played since 2011, was injured in the first half when hitting Czech Rizespor striker Milan Skoda after preventing him from scoring.

With this defeat, Galatasaray stagnated in third place in the ranking, six points behind leaders Trabzonspor and Basaksehir. The Turkish football championship resumed behind closed doors on Friday after almost three months of suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
