Davy Klaassen helped Werder Bremen on Saturday with two goals to a major victory (1-5) in the relegation match with Paderborn. Wout Weghorst (Wolfsburg) and Bas Dost (Frankfurt) were also accurate. Borussia Dortmund won in injury time against Fortuna Düsseldorf, so Bayern Munich cannot decide the title fight this weekend.
Klaassen, which is second to last in the Bundesliga with Werder, opened the score against header Paderborn in the twentieth minute with a header. Just before, former Vitesse player Milot Rashica had already missed a penalty on behalf of the visitors.
Werder was also master after that and after Yuya Osako doubled the score, Klaassen made it 0-3 with a nice volley. Paderborn only saved the honor after Maximilian Eggestein's 0-4, after Klaus Gjasula had set a dubious record in the Bundesliga just before with his sixteenth yellow card of the season. Niclas Füllkrug made it 1-5 more.
Despite the victory with three games to go, Bremen is still in a direct relegation place. Fortuna Düsseldorf is now sixteenth, a place that provides access to playoffs for promotion / relegation at the end of the season.
Two goals Weghorst, Dortmund wins in injury time
Weghorst seemed to help VfL Wolfsburg with a simple home win to SC Freiburg. The striker shot after fifteen minutes after a cross by Renato Steffen and made it 2-0 after a half hour from a penalty. Freiburg still managed to get a point out of the fire via Lucas Höler and Roland Sallai.
Dost was able to find the net again for the first time since the Bundesliga resumed. Out at Hertha BSC, he made the 1-1 on behalf of Eintracht Frankfurt, which eventually left the field with a 1-4 win.
The title fight in the Bundesliga cannot be decided this weekend. Borussia Dortmund won 1-0 against Fortuna Düsseldorf by Erling Haaland in deep injury time.
Bayern Munich will play against Borussia Mönchengladbach at home on Saturday evening. Only in a defeat of Dortmund could the team of trainer Hansi Flick already have made a decisive gap of ten points.
