Swedish athletics has drawn up a protocol for how major arena events are to be carried out and at a meeting last night the Federal Board gave its support to the protocol.

- We have developed it from our own perspective, but with the recommendations of the Public Health Authority. We have also been in contact with RF (National Sports Association) and so we have looked at football so much, says Athletics Association Secretary-General Stefan Olsson.

He mentions some things that are adapted compared to normal athletics competitions:

  • Shorter time for active in the arena
  • Clearly defined competition zones per branch
  • Adapted time program for fewer active in the arena at the same time
  • Minimize the number of officials

Now you are in a planning stage for three GP competitions, the SM and the DL Gala in Stockholm. When the respective organizers are ready, they will receive a definite green light to complete the competition.

Stefan Olsson believes that the message is welcomed by the Swedish athletics elite.

- It is my opinion and this has been a lot for the best of our elite activists, to have some competitions that are traditionally slightly bigger events as motivational factors. And then there is little finances in the whole that makes it important for them to be implemented, he says.
