Koike has previously said that it may be necessary to rationalize and simplify parts of the Olympics because of the corona pandemic, and opens to cut down on the opening and closing of the games.
Other proposals for changes that have been discussed are mandatory virus testing and fewer spectators.
The Tokyo Olympics have been postponed for a year due to the corona crisis. Moving forward the Olympics even more, if the pandemic does not disappear, has been ruled out.
