Several thousands of people have participated in "Black Lives Matters" events in the UK. This despite the fact that the government warned against large crowds of people, to avoid the spread of the corona virus.

"This is the most important thing we have to decide on because it is something that goes on from year to year," says Raheem Sterling in the BBC's Newsnight.

25-year-old Sterling supports the protests that have been around the world and in England.

- The only disease we are fighting against right now is racism.

Protests around the UK

In the surge of George Floyd's death, there have been major events in London, Bristol, Manchester, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Glasgow and Edingburgh.

46-year-old Floyd died in connection with his arrest on May 25 in Minneapolis. Four police officers have been charged with Floyd's death. Since then there have been major protests in the US and around the world. So also in the UK.

In the BBC's evening program, Sterling says.

- Just like with the pandemic, we want to find a solution to stop it.
