An Algerian court has sentenced ES Setif manager and players agent to the end of the ongoing investigation into suspicions of tampering with football matches, according to APS.
The General Manager of the Setif Agreement, Fahd Halfaya, and the players' agent, Nassim Saadawi, were imprisoned after listening to their statements and charged by the investigating judge to the Sidi Mohamed court in the center of the Algerian capital yesterday.
The investigation began in mid-May after the audio recording of a phone call between the two men spread about the arrangement of the league results. As a result, the Ministry of Youth and Sports lodged a complaint against an unknown person.
Nassim Saadawi was charged with "prejudicing the freedom of persons", "defamation" and "recording a phone call without a license", while he accused Halfaya of arranging the matches, according to the official agency.
Before his appearance before the investigating judge, Saadawi said he was "unaware" of preventing the recording of phone calls under local laws, stressing that his goal "of recording the call is to protect himself and prove his innocence in this bargaining."
For his part, Halfaya confirmed that "the registration is fabricated," according to the agency.
A head of the Etihad Club in Biskra Abdullah Bin Issa was also brought before the investigating judge, and he was placed under judicial supervision.
The ES Setif club, which won the Algerian league title eight times, previously appeared in the issue of bets and arranging matches in May 2019 after two people were imprisoned in France.
