Six FIFA U-19 players were sentenced to six months' imprisonment for violating the new Coronavirus prevention rules for drinking late at night.
The Chinese Football Association decided to suspend the six players until the end of November, and their clubs were also penalized after it was found that they had left the team's camp in Shanghai on May 30 without permission.
"It was a serious violation of the anti-epidemic regulations applied by the team, and negatively affected the whole team," Xinhua news agency quoted the Chinese Federation as saying.
Players will be banned from all matches organized by the Football Association until November 30, and will not be allowed to participate with the national team at any level during that period.
Former Chinese Premier League champion Shanghai Sepag said he has decided to suspend the salaries of three of his players, Rin Lihao, Liu Jurun and Ping Hao, due to this irregularity that forced the six players to write articles of self-criticism, according to a coach of the under-19 national team, Cheng Yudong.
According to Xinhua, the U-19 national team was supposed to participate in the third division in the third-tier of the 2024 Olympics, but "Covid-19" suspended the season indefinitely.
