The Novak Djokovic world set has been a frequent debater during the pandemic and opposes the use of vaccine, which, however, has not yet been developed. Despite the lack of vaccine, the organizer, the American Tennis Association (USTA) hopes to be able to conduct the tournament with influential players and leaders from all over the world.

Before players come to the United States with specially chartered planes from Emirates, they must have been tested negative and may only bring a support person and not use the changing rooms, which have been provided with extra ventilation, on training days.

- The rules that they explained to us in order to play at all are extreme, says Djokovic to Prva TV Television according to the Daily Mail.

"We will not be in Manhattan, we will be sleeping in hotels at the airport and tested two, three times a week," says the Serb, who will, however, miss his team most of all.

"Just taking one person with you is impossible"

- Just being able to bring one person with them really makes it impossible. I need a trainer, a physical trainer and a physiotherapist, he explains.

One way to reduce the number of people in the arena is to remove the line judges or at least reduce the number and let some form of developed hawkeye assist the chief judge in the assessment.

- There is nothing that is carved in stone and the situation around the line judges is a cracking question. We have to get sporting justice. But we have not made any decisions at all, USTA chief Stacey Allaster told the AP and believes that the announcement of the tournament and the health rules may come at the end of June.

There is no official health record in the top tennis to secure the situation during the corona pandemic.

Adults calling ball

"The government will help us with the guidance," said Allaster, who was supported by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for games for empty stands.

Although no children are classified as a risk group, the plan is that only adults should be ball-callers in this year's tournament - if it gets lost.

- If you ask me today, if I want to go to New York to play tennis, then the answer is no. How I think about a couple of months, I do not know. But hopefully I think differently then, ”says Rafael Nadal.

Last year, the tournament attracted 850,000 spectators (many went on several different days). During the worst period of the corona crisis last spring, Flushing Meadows was transformed into a covid clinic with hundreds of sick beds.
