Borja Iglesias showed up at Betis' last training session with his fingernails painted black. It could perfectly be an aesthetic whim, but his gesture carried behind a message against racism. Those black nails were a response to the murder of George Floyd and his way of joining the battle that is being fought these days. However, he unleashed the odd comment on social networks that, far from being related to the matter, ended up going through another door: that of homophobia.

"It is a way to raise awareness and fight racism from my position, but I think it also works well against homophobia. I also have to admit that I like them," said the Betis striker on his Twitter account, in response to some messages that attacked him directly because of the sexual orientation that, according to some, derived from that nail color.

His gesture, in addition, was a form of solidarity and respect towards his companions Sidnei , Feddal , Fekir , William Carvalho or Emerson . "The fight against this scourge can be expressed in many ways. The important thing is to make it visible," Betis published in its account. Feddal applauded the initiative of Iglesias: 'You are TOP comrade !!'.

Iglesias' gesture was also applauded from the CSD (Higher Sports Council). "With your permission, we subscribe these words," they said from the state agency.
