Benfica failed to take the lead in the Portuguese league from FC Porto on Thursday. The team of trainer Bruno Lage played a disappointing 0-0 in his first game since March 7 against low-flyer CD Tondela.
Benfica was unable to find a gap in the close defense of Tondela in the empty Estádio da Luz, as a result of which the top club did not go further than a draw for the third league game in a row.
The reigning champion is now in points with FC Porto, which resumed the Liga NOS on Wednesday with a surprising 2-1 defeat visiting subtopper Famalicão. Because Porto won twice from Benfica this season, the team of coach Sérgio Conceição is still in first place.
The Portuguese league resumed on Wednesday with the 25th round. Just like in Germany, Denmark and Austria, all matches are played without fans.
