"I remember the riots in LA and learned that education is the best way forward," Woods writes on Twitter, referring to the unrest in 1992 when four white police officers beat Black man Rodney King.

"We can express our opinions without burning our own residential areas," Woods continues.

His statement comes after several sports stars, including basketball legend Michael Jordan and tennis star Serena Williams, highlighted racism and demonstrated their support for the protests that have sprung up in the United States. This after the black man George Floyd died after a police arrest where a police officer choked him with a knee to the neck while praying for his life.

"My heart belongs to George Floyd, his closest and all of us who are suffering right now," Woods writes.

“I have always had great respect for our justice system. They train a lot to understand how, when and where to use force. This shocking tragedy clearly crossed that line. "
