Earlier today, the women's new alliance captain told TT that he wanted to see a reduction in the number of foreign players in SDHL to make room for Swedish players. And he gets the favor - from SDHL.

- I think everyone in Swedish hockey agrees that we have many imports in the league. Which is because the league is growing and the number of Swedish players is limited, and then you look for good players in the outside world. It's nothing we think is good over time. To lift the women's crown and Swedish hockey, we need more players with greater responsibility in their clubs, ”says Agne Bengtsson to SVT Sport.

According to Bengtsson, there are discussions within the league about limiting the number of foreign players.

- We have looked at this and have been told that it is not from lawyers. But then we have seen that Swedish basketball has found things already for the coming season. And if it goes to basketball, it must go in hockey.

Not relevant until next season

However, it is not relevant to change anything already before the next season, Bengtsson says.

- No, there are most of the contracts written. It is difficult to regulate it in the short term. But we need to act early this fall for years to come. Whether we succeed or not remains to be seen.

What the league is working towards is something that will take time to get through, and nothing that can be accomplished in just a year. Part of the problem is that it is not possible to get enough Swedish players in just a year.

- First you put a form of reason level that you have to crawl under. Then I see in front of me that you lower that level and get more and more Swedish players.
