If the competition ban for seniors is lifted, representatives of those sports see TT talked with two necessary relief to get started with competitions already this summer.

  • Ability to travel beyond the current two hour recommendation.
  • Permission to be more than 50 persons gathered.

- A golf course is 100-120 hectares and we hope, just as the National Sports Federation also thinks, that an assessment is made of how the sport is practiced. There is a certain difference between golf and wrestling, for example, says Gunnar Håkansson, golf association secretary general, regarding the restriction of 50 people:

- It is extremely rare that you are even close to someone else. We can set up a golf competition very safely, without collection and prize-giving.

The Gulf has previously stopped competitions until last June.

- If you get started with competitions at the elite level, our best professionals - yes, maybe not Henrik Stenson but players from the European Tour - can very well show up in our Swedish tour competitions. The problem is that you are not allowed to bring in any audience, says Håkansson.

"Unfortunately not realistic"

Swimming Association's Mikael Jansson does not believe in regular competitions this summer.

- Then you come in for trips and how many you get to collect and that is unfortunately not realistic, I feel. The European Swimming Association has conducted a survey among the federations and we can say that in Sweden we stand out, we have the best conditions of all right now.

How far are competitions set?

- Nationally we can be a little more quick-footed, internationally, all championships are set this year. I do not rule out that we could have a short circuit SM in November. The swimming pool is probably run for the summer, we do not really know the open water, swimming jumps, art swimming and water polo are generally smaller. There maybe we could find something, depending on the number and travel, says Jansson.

Nor does athletics have any high hopes for the start of national competitions:

- I hope we can get a message based on the possibility of having a competition for adults. As an individual sport, the most important thing is that we can compete at a fairly local level at all. We respect that it will not be as usual, but in a small-scale business with a local profile, says the Athletics Association's General Secretary Stefan Olsson.

Doubtful with SM

Ridingporten plans to organize the Swedish Championship in jumping in Falsterbo August 11-16, but can get started with national senior jumps before that, already in a month.

- In order for the SM to be implemented, it must first of all be able to gather 500 people, as it was before. If we are to have an SM you must have the right to come from all over the country. If there are travel restrictions, it feels difficult to implement a fair SM, says Jonas Holmberg, chairman of the equestrian association's jump committee.

- It could be possible to have senior competitions within the limit of 50 people. An adult rider needs fewer assistants, can drive the car himself and so on.

How do you view the general restrictions and their impact on equestrian sports?

- Somewhere, I think we have to trust the authorities and that they make wise decisions. I have chosen not to have a proper opinion. We have competent people in Sweden who can make these decisions. I believe and also think that as it gets underway in other European countries, we should probably be able to follow along. Then I see it from the sporting point of view, that we should not fall behind.

Don't believe in elite speedway

Håkan Leeman, chairman of the Swedish Motorcycle and Snowmobile Association (Svemo), says that so far, all racing activities have been stopped, including at children and youth level, as these competitions include many adults.

- If the Public Health Authority generally allows senior sports, it will be quite easy for us. At the same time, it is still a matter of living up to some other pieces, ie the 50-person rule, the minimization of travel and other things.

- Unless the message is that you completely let go of the 50-person rule, and no one believes, then I think the elite series in the speedway will still not be able to run. I see it as impossible when you usually have audience cuts of just under 3,000.

However, he believes that many of Svemo's other sports can get started if you start to allow competitions at senior level.

- When it comes to the competition itself, it is very safe sports, people have helmets with visors and leather clothes and gloves and everything. The spread of infection during the competition itself is quite small. If you can also limit the spread of infection outside the race track itself, and that is pretty easy I would say, then I think it opens up to most of our sports, specifically motocross and enduro which are by far our biggest sports. But you have to find creative ways to make sure that you are not more than 50 people in the place.

- The major limitation for our other sports is probably the travel limit of max two hours. Then it can be a little difficult to, for example, carry out an SM, says Håkan Leeman.
