• Basketball - What if the NBA ends at Disney World?

The NBA and the American League Players Association (NBPA) are in talks with the Disney company to try to resume the season at the end of July at the Florida ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

In a press release published on social networks, Mike Bass, the NBA's communication director, explained that the objective of both parties is to find a unique venue that allows to combine matches and training sessions and that has sufficient accommodation.

"Our priority remains the health and safety of all involved, and we are working with public health experts and government officials on a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure that appropriate medical protocols and protections exist," he added. Bass did not say whether the NBA will play the rest of its regular season or just the playoffs.

The NBA announced on March 11 the suspension of the 2019-2020 season after the Utah jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for coronavirus and became the first player affected by COVID-19, which forced to cancel the game that his team was going to play that night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The league that day allowed the remainder of the other five scheduled matches to be completed, but announced the temporary suspension of the entire competition until further notice.

The Wide World or Sports complex

The Wide World of Sports complex has about 90 hectares, three playing fields and numerous hotel accommodations, which would allow the league to restart activities while limiting exposure to the virus.

At the moment, since there is no official result, the teams expect the league to signal them to start sending their players to their home cities around June 1.

The NBA is discussing a step-by-step plan for the resumption of the 2019-2020 season that includes an initial two-week withdrawal of players from team markets for a period of quarantine, one or two weeks of individual training at the facilities of the equipment and a formal training camp of two to three weeks.
