Gunilla Lindberg is a real beast in both Swedish and international sports. Twice a member of the highest body of Olympic sports, the Executive Committee and Secretary-General of the Swedish Olympic Committee. During Sunday, Lindberg visited SVT's Weekend Studio to discuss the recent tearing up of the coronary pandemic.

- Everything feels very strange, but the big shock came on March 26 when the Tokyo Olympics were postponed. For the past seven years, the Tokyo Olympics have been the focus of most of our work, ”says Gunilla Lindberg.

"Must get started now"

Gunilla Lindberg sees that sport must start as soon as possible to avoid devastating consequences.

- It doesn't sound like everyone realizes how important sports are.

- The sport itself is not contagious. I usually think when I pass restaurants where people basically sit on each other's knees, is this so much better than a sports competition under controlled forms? I don't really know if we have made the right decision for the sport, says Lindberg and continues:

- It feels like we have to get started now. When we open up now elsewhere, we should be able to open up the sport. After all, we have received grants from the government, but it is not enough on long roads to cover all costs. There are certainly a lot of clubs going bankrupt.

Lindberg on the isolation: "Not being able to meet my grandchildren has been very busy"

"We started too late"

One of Lindberg's big heart issues was to organize an Olympic game at home in Sweden. Last summer it was close, Cortina and Stockholm / Åre were the only two remaining candidates to host the Winter Olympics 2026. Cortina finally won the vote, a decision that is still a pain for the 72-year-old.

By a distance how does this feel now?

- It still feels a little bit. It's not that I want to look at these pictures. We had a very good concept, we would use all existing arenas. But we didn't have enough on our feet, Lindberg says, and continues:

- We started too late and we did not understand how long it takes to sell a concept to the authorities.
