All elite level tennis is stopped until the end of July. For many players who do not belong to the absolute world top, the corona crisis poses major financial challenges. Cornelia Lister, Sweden's highest ranked doubles player as 77th, is no exception.

“Tennis is my full-time job, so getting no pay is obviously tough. Right now I'm focusing on family, friends and well-being. Trying to take the time to do other things you can't do when tennis is in full swing. It is very worth it to me and I think I will profit from it in the long run. I live on savings from previous competitions, ”she says in an email conversation with TT.

But despite this, she does not think that you should stress about getting started with the competition on the tours again.

“The most fair had been March 2021. Then it has been a year. In this way, the stress around points and the defense of points is reduced, ”she says.

Positive to merge

She is positive about the support fund established to help lower-ranked players financially during the corona crisis, and also to Roger Federer's proposal to merge the men's ATP tour with the women's WTA to strengthen tennis.

“There have been discussions about it before and it is a very good opportunity to show that we are all standing together. The positive thing about tennis is that the biggest competitions (grand slam) are played jointly for ladies and gentlemen compared to other sports that are played in different arenas on different occasions. This creates good opportunities for fans, media and sponsors to gather in one place and pay homage to the sport. "

Plays training tournament

Lister is one of the 16 Swedish players to compete in a showcase tournament in Mölndal on Friday. On the men's side, among others, the promising juniors Leo Borg and Måns Dahlberg will be in place.

“There will be something to train and play for. To come back to get this match feeling that you don't get when you just train, "says Lister.
