The International Swimming Federation "FINA" announced the new date for the world swimming championships that were to be held in Abu Dhabi (December 2020), in light of the repercussions of the emerging corona virus (Covid 19).

The Federation confirmed in a press statement that the World Swimming Championships for a distance of (25 meters) in Abu Dhabi will be held from 13-18 December 2021, and the International Water Games Conference will be held during 10-12 of the same month. The International Federation of New Dates arrived after the joint coordination between the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the competent authorities on the current crisis in the Emirates, which reflects the concern of all parties for the safety and health of everyone and the provision of all means for achieving success for the global gathering hosted by the Emirates for the second time after the successful experience held in Dubai in 2010.

Julio Malioni, President of the International Federation, said: "In light of coordination with the parties and the competent authorities in the UAE over the past weeks, we are confident that the decision we made is in the interest of all participants in the 25-meter swimming championships in Abu Dhabi," adding: " The new appointment in Abu Dhabi will be a new success and once again will inspire the development of swimming and water games in the region. "

For his part, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Aref Al-Awani, asserted: “The UAE and its wise leadership attaches great importance to the safety and health of all and takes all preventive and precautionary measures, and continues its exceptional efforts to combat the outbreak of the emerging kurna virus (Covid-19),” adding: “Coordination The joint with the International Federation and the competent authorities in the country witnessed reaching an appropriate option to postpone the World Swimming Championships (Abu Dhabi 2020) until December 2021, with the aim of ensuring the safety and health of all participants, and preserving and protecting them in order to return to competition and challenge the new date and enrich the global event.
