The island of Guernsey is closer to France than to England. On that plank of land and vegetation, located on the English Channel, the Frenchman Victor Hugo wrote his famous work of Les Miserables. Her home in St. Peter Port still survives as a must-see. During World War II, the islet was occupied by the Nazi army. And a couple of decades later, in 1968, the famous footballer Matthew Le Tissier was born in the streets of his capital , a genius who never wanted to leave the warm lap of Southampton, where he completed his career as a footballer (1986-2002).

Today the island of Guernsey returns to the fore. Not by Matt or Victor Hugo. But because now it appears as an oasis to close the Premier League. At least that has been the proposal of his chief minister, Gavin St. Pier. In this small corner, dependent on the British crown, of just 80 square kilometers, no new case of Covid-19 has been reported in the last 18 days and currently it only has four active cases. An oasis almost virus free.

"There could be a possibility. Guernsey has eradicated the coronavirus. All the footballers arrive, they are quarantined for fourteen days and end the championship here," St Pier, who responded to the message, suggested on social media. "If there is someone who is seriously interested, I am sure we could discuss the matter and execute the plan safely. It is somewhat complicated and a little crazy, but you never know," added the island's prime minister.

The most important stadium on the island is the Footes Lane Stadium, with a capacity of 5,000 spectators. Although the capacity, a priori, would be the least of the concerns, since the end of the Premier points, like the rest of European football competitions, to empty stands. Guernsey FC, the most important team in the area, plays in this venue, whose honorary president is the legendary Matt Le Tissier. A kind of Maradona for the locals.

Although the teams have returned to training today, the football season in England still has 92 games left. The Premier has even been looking for neutral places (identifying up to 10 scenarios), far from the most populated areas, to prevent ultras from congregating in areas close to their stadiums. Who knows, maybe Guernsey is a good option.
