MHSC striker and ex-Senegalese international Souleymane Camara will end his career at the age of 37, reports Midi Libre. "We exchanged Friday and the decision was made," said the president of the club, Laurent Nicollin.

Souleymane Camara, who arrived in 2007 on loan from Nice, spent most of his career in Montpellier, where he has just completed his 13th season. He played the last of his 423 Ligue 1 games against Angers on February 22 (1-0), in a truncated and interrupted season due to the epidemic of Covid-19. He is also the player who has played the most matches for the Hérault club, a few months ago surpassing another emblematic player: Pascal Baills (429 matches).

"Super-sub"

The former Senegalese international was one of the darlings of the MHSC public, especially for his participation in the title of champion of France in 2012. Author of 62 goals in Ligue 1, this versatile striker marked his passage by his role as " super-sub ”(super replacement). He began his career in Monaco (2001-2004, and 2004-2005), where he was trained, before being loaned to Guingamp (2003-2004), and transferred to Nice (2005-2007).

International Senegalese (35 selections), Camara had notably participated in the 2002 World Cup, where the Lions of Teranga had beaten in group stage France, defending champion, before rising to the quarterfinals.

“Now he's thinking about his retraining. He was given time to find out what he wants to do, if he wants to train here. We leave the door open to him, ”said Laurent Nicollin.
