Match Fixing: So it can be

During the spring and summer, Claesson is on an information tour about match fixing for all teams in Damall Swan and Elite. It has become relevant due to the increased turnover of games on Swedish women's matches.

- It's the root of evil. If there are games on football, or sports at all, this is where match fixers try to get in touch with players, Claesson says.

Belgian players contacted

In Sweden, there have not yet been any match fixing cases on women's matches, but globally they are not spared. There was, among other things, a case in 2018 when three Belgian players in the U15 national team were contacted by match fixers in connection with a training and were offered half a million per player for rigging matches.

There are several reasons why match fixing has now become a threat among the women players.

- Partly you have a big turnover now. It is an important factor. Then you may not have the same vigilance and awareness as in all Swedes. You don't have the same wages either. There are a number of factors that put the women players at risk of being shot, says Claesson.

"An important topic"

SVT Sport was when Claesson lectured for the ladies' Swedish team Eskilstuna United.

- Spontaneously I think it is good to highlight the topic. We now understand that it is an important topic and that we are not spared it either, says player Felicia Rogic.

"One letter on the record"

National team goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl sees it as a matter of course that we will see more match fixing cases in women's football.

- We must see it as coming as a letter on the mail. Women's football is starting to become more attractive. There is more money coming in and at the absolute elite level it is starting to be quite a lot of money. But this is probably more of a problem where players do not make as much money and can be attracted by making money, she says.
