Para gymnastics practice at 17:37 on May 18, Otsu.

In Shiga prefecture, where the declaration of emergency has been lifted, a sports gym has resumed operations, and an athlete with experience in the Paralympics visited for training.

A sports gym in Sencho, Otsu City has resumed business, and many athletes in Shiga prefecture are using it because they can receive "hypoxic training" using a dedicated device.

On the 18th, Hiroko Kondo (53), a para-athlete from Ritto City, who came in 5th place in the eye-worn class of the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic women's marathon, visited the gym.

Kondo entered a room that was kept in a low oxygen state and spent 30 minutes running and sweating using a running machine.

Kondo has virtually missed his participation in the Tokyo Paralympic Games, which was postponed to next year, but he is still living in the local Ritto city, aiming to participate in international competitions.

Mr. Kondo said, "I am able to train efficiently, which is helpful. The future is uncertain, but I want to accumulate what I can do now."

Hiroori Nakayama, who runs a sports gym, said, “We were able to prevent infection and managed to restart it. We would like to continue supporting training.”
