The 25-year-old running for Mclaren, together with Renault's Daniel Ricciardo, Australia, have been the hottest candidates to succeed the four-time world champion Vettel. Sainz Jr. has run 102 Grand Prix and took his first and so far only podium place in F1 when he finished third in Brazil's GP in November.

Sainz Jr.'s father Carlos senior recently stated in his Spanish TV channel Movistar that his son could leave McLaren. According to Carlos senior, there are only details that remain but he does not want to say more because it is a sensitive situation.

German Motorsport-Total has more about the possible transition.
