  • After two months of confinement, the players of Stade Rennais return to training on Wednesday.
  • Strict sanitary rules will be put in place, with in particular ten meters distance between each player on the fields.
  • This recovery is crucial for the players according to the club doctor, from both a medical and psychological point of view.

While the majority of Ligue 1 players are already on vacation, some clubs still resume the path of training. After those of Strasbourg Tuesday, the players of Stade Rennais will find the lawns of La Piverdière on Wednesday, said the Breton club on its website. This recovery after two months of confinement will not however be entirely normal with strict sanitary measures which will be put in place. The players will thus have to respect ten meters of distance between them on the grounds and will not have the right to use the changing rooms.

For their return, they will also have to pass a cardiological examination and every morning the medical staff will take their temperature. Media and supporters will also be unable to attend these sessions. This recovery, which only concerns the professional group, will take place for two and a half weeks. After which, Rennes players will be entitled to a few weeks of vacation before returning to the field to prepare for the next season, which could be marked by a historic participation in the Champions League.

High risk of injury after two months of inactivity

For Rufin Boumpoutou, the doctor of the pro group interviewed on the club's website, this return to training is crucial for the players. "The period of inactivity has been very long and this represents a fairly high risk of injury for the next season," he explains. To manage this risk, it is important to be able to offer musculo-tendinous solicitation for the lower limbs fairly regularly ”.

The psychological factor also be taken into account. "The confinement period was long for people who live most of the year in groups," said the doctor. The period was also rich in events, doubts, misunderstandings… It seemed important to set up something where people can find themselves while respecting the distance and the barrier measures around the same activity and to regain hope on the possibility of returning to normal football practice in the near future ”.
