Russian sports suffered a great loss due to the coronavirus pandemic. The head coach of the Russian women's national wrestling team, Magomed Aliomarov, died on May 13 in a hospital in Dagestan. He was 67 years old.

Details of the death of a specialist preparing athletes for the Olympic Games in Tokyo were told by the president of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili. According to him, Aliomarov recently felt better than at the time of hospitalization, but still could not cope with a serious illness.

“It is hard to believe that all this happened. A little more than a week ago it became known that he was hospitalized. A few days ago I found out that he was in a stable condition, that he was recovering and was almost ready to be discharged ... But ... My deepest condolences to the relatives and friends of Magomed Aliomarovich, his family and the entire wrestling community, ”the words quoted Mamiashvili press service of the FSBR.

The head of the federation noted Aliomarov’s great contribution to the development of women's wrestling in Russia. He also emphasized that the specialist’s work in the national team was optimistic.

“To say that this is a very big loss for us is to say nothing. Magomed Aliomarov was still a young man, and he had so much energy, so many plans, so many hopes. And the revolutionary transformations that he made in the women's struggle, of course, inspired us with hope. But all this is so incomparable with the fact that such a young man who has a family, children, grandchildren passed away. Bright memory, ”Mamiashvili added in an interview with RIA Novosti, commenting on the mentor’s departure.

From childhood, Aliomarov was fascinated by the struggle and already in his youth began to train other athletes in his native Dagestan. In 1989, at the age of 37, he was awarded the title of Honored Trainer of the RSFSR. In the world of wrestling, the specialist is primarily known for working with the women's team of Azerbaijan, which he managed to raise to a leading position. In 2009, Azerbaijani girls won a team victory at the World Cup, interrupting the long hegemony of Japanese women. Representatives of Azerbaijan Maria Stadnik and Julia Ratkevich won silver and bronze at the Olympic Games in London.

In 2012, after the Olympics, Aliomarov left the post of mentor of the Azerbaijani team and focused on the work as vice president in the local wrestling federation. In February 2019, he led the women's national team of Russia, which until then had not shown high results - at the 2018 World Cup, the girls did not win a single medal out of 40 possible, but did not win any victories since 2015.

In the fall, a breakthrough occurred at the championship of the planet in Nur-Sultan. Russian girls rose to second place in the team event, and Natalya Vorobyova and Inna Trazhukova’s gold, Lyubov Ovcharova’s silver and Olga Khoroshavtseva’s and Ekaterina Polishchuk’s bronze awards, which also received the Olympic license, went to the national team’s coin box. In February 2020, the Russian women's team won the European Championships, winning four gold, one silver and four bronze medals.

World champion Inna Trazhukova admitted that she was shocked by the news of the death of Aliomarov. She noted that thanks to the joint work with him, she was able to achieve major sporting success in her life. According to her, the coach made big plans for the Tokyo Olympics, postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus.

“I just found out and am in shock, throwing a shiver. It's hard to believe. The period of work with Aliomarov was the most successful in my sports career. We were able to find a common language with him, despite the fact that our views on preparation could be very different. He believed in me before the World Cup, and this prompted a qualitative change in my struggle. I enjoyed working under his guidance. His death is a big loss for the national team. We have already established work, we are accustomed to his leadership style ... Very sad, ”the athlete admitted.

Aliomarov’s funeral took place on the day of his death in his native village of Tlyarosh in Dagestan. Condolences on the death of the trainer were expressed by the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
