As it is difficult to respect social distancing measures there, nightclubs may be the last to be able to reopen. So some night clubs switch to the virtual to find a semblance of activity. The nightlife comes to life through an app and headphones.

Emmanuel Macron invited the world of culture to innovate, to invent new interactions. The first initiatives come from techno music. With virtual nightclubs where everyone dances at home.

Be careful, we are not talking about a simple DJ who mixes live on the Internet. Now these are real nightclubs with queues at the entrance, changing rooms and even backrooms in the toilets.

How it works ? First, you buy your entry ticket. Then we go to the site or the application of the nightclub. Then we line up. Before, obviously, to pass in front of a virtual physio, which will ask questions to know if we deserve to enter or not.

Can you be turned away even after paying?

Yes, but the questions are quite simple. For example: "quote me one of the DJs mixing tonight". So you just have to find out and queue up again. But once inside, you have access to different rooms, atmospheres, DJs. You can then start videoconferencing to dance with your group of friends or people chosen entirely at random. Finally, there are also toilets where you can talk, in private, without being bothered by music.

Is there also a bar with overpriced drinks?

No, there are no drinks. But there is still a bar tab. It is a place to make donations. Because these virtual dancefloors are mainly used to raise funds to support the electronic music scene which is very impacted by the crisis.

These are concert hall initiatives such as the Glazart in France or the Resident Advisor in Germany. Beyond solidarity, there is above all the establishment of an economic model with payment at entry. This could help hold on, pending reopening.
