  • Ui-jo Hwang took advantage of the shutdown of Ligue 1 to join his homeland in order to perform his reduced military service.
  • For four weeks, he will live to the rhythm of South Korean army training to learn the basics.
  • He should be back in France in early June and follow a fortnight period before any resumption of training with the club.

Each in turn. While Tottenham striker Heung-min Son finished his military service in South Korea last Friday with the congratulations of the army, Ui-jo Hwang has just started his own. Confined to France for several weeks, the Girondins de Bordeaux player has joined his homeland in recent days.

Like his compatriot, he had to perform his "mini" military service before his 28th birthday, that is to say on August 28, and he took advantage of the final cessation of the Ligue 1 championship to do so. Compulsory military service but reduced to a few weeks because Ui-jo Hwang obtained the status of "sportsman" thanks to his gold medal won with the South Korean national team at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia. As a reminder, it lasts about two years for all other citizens.

Fortnight to be respected upon return

The Bordelais will do a week longer than the Londoner. Why ? According to information from 20 Minutes, he chose the Army and not the Navy as Heung-min Son. He will therefore have to do four weeks of training and not three, but the program should remain roughly: physical exercises, workshops to learn how to use a rifle or even tear gas training.

Ui-jo Hwang should then return to France in early June because if the borders remain closed beyond the Schengen area, he is allowed to return because of his salary obligations. However, he must respect a period of fourteen. For the moment, it is planned that the Girondins de Bordeaux will resume individual distance training from June 1 before gradually finding themselves in Haillan from June 22 according to a strict health protocol.

In addition, another compatriot of Ui-jo Hwang, the Valence midfielder Kang-in Lee on which the Girondins would have views, was especially followed very closely by the club a year ago according to the information of 20 Minutes . Today, it is no longer one of the club's priorities, while certain French media speak of Olympique de Marseille's marked interest in this Korean international.
