Former NBA player Shannon Brown was arrested last week after being accused of shooting a rifle at two people who were searching for homes for sale in suburban Atlanta , police said.

The 34-year-old Brown faces an aggravated assault charge stemming from the incident Saturday at his home in Tyrone, Georgia, and is free after posting bail Monday.

Pau Gasol's former teammate in the Los Angeles Lakers and two-time NBA champion told police he thought the couple was trying to break into their home, according to a report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution .

For their part, the couple told the police officer that they were looking for houses and that they saw a sign saying "for sale" in front of Brown's house. They added that the front door was open and entered after saying aloud their intentions to tour the house with intentions to buy it.

Tyrone Police Lt. Philip Nelson said the couple claimed that "they heard a voice, and once inside the house Mr. Brown came upstairs with a rifle and detained them," he said.

The official document states that "Shortly afterwards he let them go, and they said he fired his rifle at them as they were leaving," but no one was injured , Nelson said. Responding investigators found an empty shell at the scene. Brown's Fayette County home is for sale, Police said.

Brown played for seven NBA teams in nine seasons: the Cleveland Cavaliers; the Chicago Bulls; the Lakers, the Phoenix Suns; the New York Knicks; the San Antonio Spurs, and the Miami Heat.

He currently plays in the Ice Cube Big3 league , which has teams of three against three.
