The International Legislative Council of Football (IFAP), which is concerned with approving the amendments to the law of the game, announced on Friday that the teams will be able to make five substitutions per game instead of the three currently permitted, in the context of temporary amendments aimed at reducing the impact of the expected match pressure. The Council issued an official statement on its website, in which it said that it approved the proposal of the International Football Association (FIFA), regarding increasing the number of substitutions to 5 instead of 3, in anticipation of the expected pressure in the fixtures after the suspension of the leagues for a long time due to the outbreak of the Corona virus.

He explained that the decision to make 5 substitutions will be applied temporarily at the end of the year during regular matches (90 minutes), while teams during the elimination matches that resort to additional runs will be entitled to make 6 substitutions.

The statement indicated that IFAP and FIFA will determine at a later time whether there is a need to extend this decision during the 2021 tournaments.
