On Wednesday, it was announced that Finland is giving positive signals about domestic athletics and that it will start at the end of June. Included in the schedule of competitions that are scheduled to take place during the summer and autumn is Finnkampen September 4-5, according to YLE.

The Swedish Athletics Association has previously referred decisions on domestic athletics in Sweden to a board meeting on May 15. But now Secretary-General Stefan Olsson gives happy news about Finnkampen, which will be decided in Tampere this season.

- We are in contact with the Finnish Athletics Association on a weekly basis and vote on the situation. Currently, they and we are planning for it to be a Finnkamp in Tampere 4-5 September.

How likely is Finnkampen to get rid of?

- It is very difficult to answer but I can only hope and wish with the heart that it will be possible. It is so very important both for Swedish athletics and the history that exists around Finnkampen, says Olsson and continues:

- We have the utmost respect for the situation we are in and simply have to follow what happens in the future. But it is still a signal that Finland has opened up a little neighbor. They have been more closed than Sweden.

No digital competition

On Sunday, a pole jumping competition was decided where the three best pole jumpers in the world, including Armand Duplantis, participated digitally at a distance. But that Finnkampen would be transformed into something similar, there are no plans for the present.

- We have mentioned it but it is nothing we have done any big deal of yet.
