What consequences the German message will have for other leagues and nations remains to be seen, but this is the situation for the moment in the otherwise stagnant European men's football:

Italy

Authorities and leading politicians give vague information. At the same time, contradictory statements from unions, league associations and individual clubs come about and when Serie A should or can be resumed.

The situation in the clubs: The team starts to exercise in cautious form this week.

Politics: Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora is not satisfied with the football association's developed medical regulations.

Possible league start: Probably first in June.

Spain

Has come further than Italy. Here, the consensus between the various parties involved is greater.

Situation in the clubs: Ready for training this week, but with a maximum of six people on the pitch at the same time to begin with. That goes for the clubs in the two top leagues.

The policy: The sports and health authorities have approved the medical regulations.

Possible league start: June.

England

Meetings alternate between clubs, Premier League and government. The club owners push for league games this summer, but are met by opposition from among other club players.

The situation in the clubs: The players are called in to each club and to varying degrees joint, but individually separated, training sessions have started. Some clubs opened their training facilities already last week.

Politics: Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday announces whether the strict restrictions exist or if relief is to be expected. A football-positive decision is needed to move forward in resuming the Premier League.

Possible league start: May 12th. For the moment, we are talking about matches on neutral levels, which must be approved for health and safety reasons.

France

The league was canceled last week.

Location in the clubs: Paris SG was named champion. Lyon demands compensation because the club misses games in Europe this fall. Relegated Amiens and Toulouse have threatened to legally review the decision to suspend the league.

Possible league start: Next season is scheduled to start in August.

Netherlands

Delayed the league game already on April 24 after the government decision to ban public gatherings until September.

Situation in the clubs: No champion appointed. The five highest ranked clubs were given places in this autumn's European Games.

Belgium

First nation to cancel the season, but the formal decision is delayed and postponed four times.

Portugal

Discusses appropriate dates to restart Primeira Liga but the second division is set with eleven rounds remaining.

Situation in the clubs: Started training this week.

Possible league start: May 30 is a likely date.

Switzerland

Several clubs have financial problems and medical issues remain to be resolved.

Situation in the clubs: Training starts on Monday next week.

Politics: The government has given the go ahead if the clubs meet the medical requirements.

Possible league start: June 8.

Austria

The situation in the clubs: Training has been going on for some time.

Politics: The government demands that the entire team must be quarantined if a player is tested positive for the virus.

Possible league start: The league is likely to be canceled due to government requirements.

Other:

Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey and Serbia aim to start league games in late May or early June. Croatia, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Ireland and Sweden want to resume or start the seasons, but are waiting for the authorities.

The Faroe Islands will start the league game on Saturday, as the first football nation in Europe alongside Belarus, which started its season as planned despite the corona pandemic.
