Several athletes from the French delegation that traveled to Wuhan to participate in the World Military Games in late October, claim to have been sick with symptoms similar to those of the coronavirus on their return from China, according to French media.

Since anonymity, one of the 401 army athletes who represented France in Wuhan tells on the chain "BFM TV" that after returning he was ill with fever, breathing difficulties and without being able to get out of bed for three days. At that time, he discovered on social networks that several of his fellow delegates were also sick with similar symptoms.

In parallel, the testimony of another participant, the modern pentathlon world champion , Elodie Clouvel , takes weight these days , who in late March commented in an interview on the local network "Loire 7" that she believed she had passed the coronavirus.

Asked on March 25 about her concern about traveling to Japan to participate in the Olympics this summer (before they were delayed), Clouvel said she was not afraid because she believed she had already passed it, as did her partner, the athlete Valentin Belaud .

"We were in Wuhan at the military World Games in late October and it turns out that afterwards we all fell ill. Valentin missed three days of training. I was also ill. I had symptoms that I had not had before, but we did not worry, because we did not speak about it then, "he said.

More than 10,000 athletes

In addition, he stated that when he saw the military doctor some time later, he said that he believed that "they had had it because many of the delegation had been ill." These world games hosted over 10,000 athletes from 100 countries and took place in Wuhan from October 18 to 27.

China notified the World Health Organization last December that it had detected the virus in Wuhan.

They have been a controversial point in the timeline of the pandemic, especially after Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian hinted on social media that the virus was introduced to China by the delegation of American athletes.

According to the newspaper "Le Parisien", several athletes have refused to explain themselves on the matter, following instructions from the military authorities, who have asked not to answer questions from the press, and another, also under anonymity, explained that they have tried to reassure them saying that the virus arrived in November and not October.

The chain "BFM TV" assures that the army does not intend to test the participants of the competition to see if they had COVID-19.

On Monday, French doctors shared their suspicions that the coronavirus was already circulating in the country in late December, after having diagnosed "a posteriori" a patient, who was admitted to a hospital in the Paris region on December 27 from of the tests that were made then.
