Sarah Sjöström has been at the top among the Simelite for many years and under normal circumstances she had just commuted between her training bases in Turkey and Sweden. In addition, she had been in the middle of preparations for the European Championships which would have started next week.

- Obviously you long to start competing again. I will just train as usual to get better, I did anyway. This is the training day I enjoy and I will train all my life, not just because a World Cup and an Olympics await.

Because of the corona pandemic, everything has been postponed and right now there is no championship scheduled until the Olympics next summer. At the same time, the European Swimming Association, LEN, is looking at the possibilities of moving the European Championships to May next year.

- It would have been a major disaster if I had been younger and maybe trained for my first European Championship. Now I have been traveling around like a fool for several years. I try to see the positive in this, that I have time to relax a little.

Thanks to a strong training program in Sweden, Sjöström can keep up in a good way, while at the same time missing the training group in Turkey.

- I train together with a national elite center and have a whole team around me here in Stockholm. It works very well with me, but of course you long for Turkey where we have such a nice training arena and get to exercise outdoors in the sun.
