Athletic Club of Bilbao and Real Sociedad issued a joint statement today, Monday, calling on the Spanish Football Federation to hold their postponed matches in the King's Cup final due to the new Corona virus, in the presence of the fans.
The Basque Country teams were scheduled to meet for the first time in the final of the country's oldest football competition on April 18 at the Cartuja Stadium in Seville, before all football matches were suspended since mid-March due to the outbreak of "Covid-19".
The Spanish federation responded by affirming its support for the two clubs' request, saying that "the federation fully shares the desire of the Athletic Clubs of Bilbao and Real Sociedad to hold the King's Cup final in the presence of the fans, when health and sports conditions permit."
The statement stressed that the federation "will lay down the necessary mechanisms to officially compete in the King's Cup final at the appropriate time, whether in 2020 or 2021, but before the end of the 2020-2021 season."
In the event that the final cannot be held before the start of the next season, the last qualifying seat in the European League "Europa League" will be awarded to the seventh-ranked LaLiga player who is currently Valencia, instead of crowned the Cup title.
