Title of champion, European places, promotion-relegation ... The questions are many and the tension palpable within French football the day after the announcement of Edouard Philippe of the end of the 2019-2020 season. Will PSG be crowned champion, or will the season be considered "white"?

Edouard Philippe whistled the end of the game for French football. While the hope of ending the season still existed among several players of professional football, the Prime Minister made it clear that the 2019-2020 season was over for French professional sport, Tuesday during the presentation of his deconfinement plan before The national assembly. If this final decision seems logical for many of them, the French leaders do not all agree on how to end a season cut by a quarter of the games. Decryption.

The PSG champion?

With twelve points ahead of OM in the current state, PSG is a solid leader in Ligue 1 after the 28th day. Will it be crowned champion or will it be decided to consider this season as "white" (without champion)?

Imbroglio for European places

Second and third in the championship, OM and Rennes will most likely compete in the Champions League next season. But it is complicated for places in the Europa League. For two reasons.

1. The national cups. The finals of the Coupe de France (PSG-Saint-Etienne) and the League (PSG-Lyon) could not be disputed, the two tickets to the Europa League are not distributed. While Noël Le Graët still hopes to make the final of the Coupe de France in early August, UEFA said that it would not be possible to send the finalists for the C3 cups. In this case, the two remaining tickets for France will be allocated to the 5th and 6th of L1.

2. The championship. Lille, solid 4th, will compete in the C3. But who to accompany him, in 5th and 6th places? Four clubs are in the race: Reims (41 points), Nice (41 points), Lyon (40 points) and Montpellier (40 points). If the championship is frozen as it is, the first two will join Losc in the Europa League. But that poses a problem of equity since the PSG-Strasbourg of the 28th day could not dispute. Other solutions are put forward: make a coefficient points won / matches played, freeze the classification on the 27th day (Lyon and Montpellier were 5th and 6th) or ... play play-offs as suggested by Jean-Michel Aulas, President of Lyon.

Jean-Pierre Rivère, the president of Nice, expressed his reservations on this proposal, and the attitude in general of the president of OL. "Play-offs don't make sense. And I don't see how it can be done. We are already having trouble setting a schedule to finish next season, if you also add play-offs. .. ", he reacted on Europe 1." The only wish I can express is that when the decision has been made by everyone through a vote, that nobody disputes it and that everything the world endorses what has been decided collectively. There is a rule which has been applied by the Federation to all the championships below us (apply the coefficient rule), I don't see why it would be different for professional football . I hope it's a ranking that will be sporting only and not political. "

The LFP is giving itself until mid-May to find a way out that will not only make people happy.

What about ascents and descents?

Two descents and as many climbs are a priori planned, with the removal of the dams. Toulouse and Amiens should therefore be relegated to L2, and Lorient and Lens promoted to L1.

What about next season?

If the entire 2019-2020 season is closed by the LFP Thursday, including national cups, then the resumption of the new championship could be in early August. She would be behind closed doors for at least several days, the Prime Minister having prohibited gatherings of more than 5,000 people at least until September. It depends, however, on the ability of players to train in July. And time is already running out since at the end of the 2020-2021 season the Euro 2020 will be contested ...
